Sodium Molybdate – Soluble Molybdenum Fertiliser

A highly soluble source of molybdenum (Mo) for correcting deficiency and supporting efficient nitrogen metabolism in horticultural, broadacre and pasture systems.

Molybdenum is required only in very small amounts but is important for nitrate utilisation and biological nitrogen fixation, making it especially valuable for legumes and acidic soils where molybdenum availability is often low.

Application

  • Pasture / soil: typically 125–150 g/ha

  • Corrective soil application: up to 250 g/ha where deficiency is confirmed

Soil-applied molybdenum may remain effective for approximately 3–5 years, so full rates should not normally be applied annually.

For horticultural crops, apply early in crop growth. One application is often sufficient; a second application approximately 3 weeks later may be useful where deficiency is significant.

Grazing Withholding

Following molybdenum application, keep livestock off treated pasture for up to 4 weeks. Molybdenum concentrations in young pasture can remain elevated during this period and may interfere with copper nutrition in grazing animals. If adequate rain or irrigation has not occurred, a longer interval may be appropriate.

Important

Molybdenum is required only in trace quantities. Measure carefully and apply evenly.

Repeated or excessive molybdenum applications to pasture can contribute to copper deficiency in livestock, particularly on lighter soils or where copper status is already marginal.

One technical nuance: I would call this a “Grazing Withholding / Spelling Period” on a fertiliser product page rather than implying it is necessarily a statutory chemical WHP. Formal WHPs are label-specific and legally defined for registered agricultural chemical products.
