Rollers can be rapidly changed to match seed types and spacing. Spacing is firstly adjust by the number of holes on the seed selection roller:
2 holes used for plant spacing of 25-60cm
4 holes used for plant spacing of 15-35cm
6 holes used for plant spacing of 10-25cm
12 holes used for plant spacing of 2.5-12cm
24 holes used for plant spacing of 1.5-6cm
Further adjustment to spacing is achieved through sprockets selection. Normally one sprocket selection can do almost everything and changing rollers is enough.
Latest 10 Roller Pack 2026 Includes:
F-24 (5 mm hole equivalent to LJ-24) - carrots, lettuce, intensive planted kale
MM-12 (6 mm hole equivalent to MJ-12) - beets, pelleted carrots, coriander, coated lettuce, coated onion, sorghum, baby Swiss chard, and peppers.
X-24 (4 mm hole) - leeks, onion, radish, and spring onion
Y-6 (3.5 mm hole) – Arugula, bok choi, mustards, turnip, kale, mizuna
Y-24 (3.5 mm hole) - Arugula, bok choi, mustards, turnip, kale, mizuna
X-12 (4 mm hole) - leeks, onion, radish, and spring onion
AA – 6 (12 mm holes) – Corn, beans
BL-12 (10 mm holes) – small corn, beans seed
XY-4 – Specialised lettuce roller with star slits
N-6 – Roller with scoops for mixed seeds like green manure blends
These are the most used rollers and are recommended by JM Fortier, and many others. We stock some alternatives including custom blanks. Let us know if you need something different and it can be arranged.
The seeder digs a farrow, drops the seeds at the desired depth, covers the seed and then presses down the soil for strong soil contact. It performs well in many soil types and the boat shape pushes trash underneath allowing for some imperfections in bed prep.
An alternative boat opener with disks is available on request.
